Barbarians of Lemuria is a 2d6 Fantasy RPG from Ludospheric.
Weapons
For my purposes, weapons in BoL suffer the same problem as those in many other systems that simplify weapons without sufficiently distinguishing them: seemingly strange choices become optimal. For example, in BoL, a club (tree branch) is superior to the sword. Both are one handed weapons that do d6 damage but the club can be thrown. The sword is not only the most iconic symbol of a warrior, it is so because it earned that place. (Also in no way should crossbows add a strength bonus!) As such I apply the following rules for swords in BoL.

Swords & Daggers
Blades cause an additional point of damage when unaffected by armor and cause one less point of damage when affected by armor. This reflects the ease with which a well placed thrust or slash to inflict devastating damage with a bladed weapon as well as the swords greatly diminished effectiveness vs armor. "Very immersive!"
+ The weight distribution and solid metal design of swords lends itself to parrying defense. Any combat career may take the homebrew Boon 'Sword Parry' to add +1 to their defense when attacked from the front and wielding a sword, unless circumstances would prevent it (total darkness, etc.)

Polearms
A hero with a ready polearm can attack an enemy that moves within reach (about 3 yards), toward them, in their front, barring any circumstances which would otherwise prevent it. Polearms are weapons of formation warfare and as such fighting adjacent enemies in skirmish combat is done with a penalty.
Metal Bludgeoning Weapons (Hammer, Mace, etc.)
An odd damage roll result with a metal bludgeoning weapon always causes at least one point of damage, despite armor protection. This represents the evolution of weapons designed to be used primarily against armored opponents. (This includes spiked maces and hammers.)

Crossbows & Bows
Crossbows do not add the wielders strength to damage, they do however punch through armor better and so bypass 1 point of armor.
Bows require strength 0 to use & longbows require strength 1. Both add strength to damage as usual (1/2).
Boon restrictions
The suggested boons listed under each career are more more than a suggestion, they're the only ones you can take. With four careers you should have ample opportunity take take the boons you want by making them fit your career. At level one however you will likely only have one boon from your race.

Careers
In BoL each character begins with 4 careers, your level in these careers determines your skill bonus for challenges that would fit those careers. Some careers grant bonuses to special Boons or even sub-systems. BoL repeatedly makes note of the fact that only characters with at least one career related to combat would have sort of bonus to rolls related to strategy and tactics and those without would not. In short, if you want your character to understand violence pick at least one of these careers.
